PINE HILL ROAD BOARD.
To the Editor. Sir, —[t is only 6£ late a Road Board’s ordinance came into operation, and great things were expected from' its introduction, as it created districts into corporations ; but this has its drawbacks as usual, for danse 8 opens the door to the Government and a few discontented individuals to inflict on others » disadvantage, viz, disfranchisement for three years, and all to sati fy the whim of a very few. The J’rovlneiul Gu~s(te contains a notice of a petition being lodged pleading for. the dismemberment of Pino Hill subdivision of the North Kast Valley district into three wards, and the Government will give effect to the fallacious prayer of the petition, if no objections be lodged on pr before the 24th iuat. Now these wards are sketched put by, and to the satisfaefcio i of the petitioners, and the Government are "prepared to make confusion worse dmfdujidoU by intimating their willingness to cpmpjy, instead of waiting to a ! low the ordinance a single trujl, or having t fajjejed o|
verified by results. It is only three years since the unwise interference of the Government, at the request; of the chief actor in this dismemberment, plunged the Pine Hilldi-trict into debt. I think the District Board ought to be consulted on all matters affecting the interests of the ratepayers, instead of dabbling into matters they cannot know head or tail of, other than is poured into his Honor’s ear by an individual who, while shaking hands (like Judas of old), quaintly smiles from ear to car. It appears to me that unless Road Boards areas untrammelled and free to act as the City Corporation, it is only a misnomer to term the Boards corporations. A. K.
