WASTE LAND BOARD.
A meeting of the Waste Land Board was held to-day. There were present Messrs Strode (in the chair), Tolmie, Butierworth, and Clark.
Messrs Gillies and Street applied to have sections 2 and 68, block 3, Ottpopo district, put up for sale at 20s per acre. The area applied for was 7a. Ir, 27p. This was an abandoned educational reserve, and was offend for sale in 1868, but not sold. The application was granted. Messrs Robert and Thomas Wills applied for an exchange of their goldfields lease of sections 24 and 70, block 2, Table Hill district, for a lease under the “Otago Waste Lands Act, 1872.” A' letter from the Warden of the district was read, showing that the applicants bad not paid their last halfyear’s rent. 'lhc application was granted conditionally that the rent was first paid. Mr John Douglas applied for a depasturing license for the Hawksbury Hundred for the current year. The applicant said that he made application for a*lic<nse to Mr Thomson dhring December last, but was refused on the grounds that it was made too late. Two other licenses had been granted, and he was now in the position of being liable to have his cattle taken away to the {round at any moment. He was one of the argest stockowners in the district. The application was granted. An application was male by Mr John M. Nichol to purchase the north part of sections 1 and 37, block 2, Clarendon district. It was stated that this was an irregular application, as the applicant wanted to purchase part of an abandoned educational receive, and that the hale would likely have the effect of closing up the other portions of the sections from communication with the adjacent road. The application, therefore, was adjourned for a week, to allow the District Banger to report on the matter. Mr Robinson applied that the remainder of the land occupird by him at Naseby, viz., about three roods, might be offered for sale. A letter from the applicant was read, show ring that the ground was part of an abandoned worked-out gold*field, and that he had planted and otherwise improved it. The application was granted, and the land was ordered to be advertised for one month, at the upset price of L 8 per acre. Mr D. L. Lawlor applied for a renewal of his license to occupy part of Mussel Beq.ch, Taewaewae Bay, for whale fishing. The application was granted.
