THE VOLUNTEERS.
A series of matches were fired at the Anderson’s Bay rillo range, this morning, at 200, 500, and 600 yards, and at 400, 500, and 600 yards. At the first-named ranges, the Dunedin Scottish Company fired against the First Westland Rifles and the Riverton Rifles, and the City Guards fired against the First Westland Rifles at 400, 500, and 600 yards. The Scottish fired against the City Guards and the Napier Rifle Club, the Guards also firing against the Napier Club. The Guards had only eight men out, and were obliged to take the average for the two absentees; the Scottish had a full team of ten men. The result of the match between the Scottish and the Guards is in favor of the Scottish the total scores being—Scottish, 421 ; Guards, 412£. For the matches at 200, 500, and 600 yards, the Scottish made 403, and the Guards 381 L We will give the scores in to-morrow’s issue.
