CONSECRATION.

To-day, shortly after twelve o’clock, the Eight R.ev. the Lord Bishop of Dunedin, assisted by tfye Revs E. 6. Edwards and E. H. Granger, copsecratpd fsr burial purposes the portion of the North Dpn.Qdm Cemetery apportioned to tho use of the TSpghsh Caurch. It comprises, we believe, about four acres, and commences at a point two chains north from the entrance gate. It is bounded by a line running west, of seven chains in length. On the north by a line at right angles to Ihe west line, of three and a half chains ; thence by the creek in a s°utneasterly direction, about seven and a halt chains, and them e by a line running easterly fbut and * half chains, to the starting-point. The following petition for consecration of the ground was presented to his Lordship by the Rev. E, G. Edwards :

. “ Dunedin, January 29, 1873 “ To the Right Keverend the Lord Bishop of Dunedin.—We the undersigned on behalf of the members of tho Church of Lnglanc resident in Dunedin, respectfully request your Lordship to consecrate the po:mon o the ground in this cemetery allotted by ® M&yor and Corporation of this Qity, as a burial-place for the members of our communion* ” /N v i. “(Signed) E. His Lordship replied i Ido comply with the request therein set forth, The service was then read by his Lordship, the clergymen present responding. After the opening prayers, the Bis hop and clergy, in procession, those present following, walked round the boundary paths, his Lordship reciting the 23rd, £sth, 90th, am Psalms, The responses were give» by m clergy following. “ I, Samuel Tarrant, by divine permission the Bishop of Dunedin, do pronounce the parcel of ground which has now been perambulated, and which is further defined and set forth upon the plans enrolled in the offices of the municipality of Dunedin, to be set apart from profane uses, and consecrated for the burial of the dead, according to the rites and ceremonies of the Church of England in New Z&land. In token whereof we have caused our Episco'pal seal to bo affixed to this document, which we hereby direct to be preserved in the muniments of the Diocesan Synod, and sealed, this 59th day of the year of our Lord 1873.” The 19th chapter of John, from verse 38, was then read, and appropriate prayers having be n offered up, the Bishop closed the service with the customary benediction.
