This Day. (Before hia Worship the Mayor.)
Alleged Ship Desertion.— Daniel Tierney, the lad remanded from yesterday on the above charge, was again brought up. Captain Paterson, of the brig Pakeha, said the defendant answered his application for two boys, and that he engaged him with his mother’s consent. He did not wish him to go to sea, and as be did not think be would piake a sailor, all he wanted to do was to show him th?,t he could not run away. Mr H/uris, whp was instructed by Tierney s father, said the hpy ; s mother, who present in Court, did hot sanction ms being shipped. In dismissing the case, ms Worship said the boy’s conduct had been very bad. ... Bye-law Cases. —Mrs Clayton, neglecting to clean premises, was fined 2s 6d ; Charles Goodall, plying for hire without a license, os.
