MR BARNES’S EFFUSION.

To the Editor.

Bir ; —l dare say more of your readers than myself were both amused and pained at reading “ Councillor Barnes’s ” letter in your Bsuo of to-night. D appeared to ha m been printed verbatim ct literatim as it had been writ en To read such a chaotic mass as the letter in question was perfectly amusing ; but, at the same time, it was painful to any man having the least pre tension to even the ordinary education of the very commonest of schools, to think that such a letter should have been penned by a party who aspires to the office of Mayor of this city. 'I he High School opens on the 2.th ii st., and, unfortunately, there is a preliminary examination to be passed before the like of our leanud friend the “Councillor*’ could g«-t admission there; hut, although he is rather old, perhaps, to make as much progress as a younger man might do, 1 would seriously advise him to apply to the Bev. T. L, Stanley, whose school opens on the same date, as I understand Mr Stanley undertakes to prepare pupils for the High School. Possibly Mr Stanley miijht be able to improve the “ Councillor ” in spelling, punctuation, and giammar; but if the latter is as conceited in the<e as ho appears to he in other matters, I for one should not like Mr Stanley’s task.—l urn, &c., One Who Was at the Octagon on S.vitrdav Night. 21st January, 1873.
