Breaches ok the Licensing Ordinance. —Several cases against the publicans, for breaches of the Licensing Ordinance, ISOS, were adjourned till Wednesday, the 2!) th inst., in consequence of the illness of Constable Vernon, who laid the informations, Mr Fultpu remarking that the cases ought not to have been fixed for hearing before the Resident Magistrate, as they clearly came within the province of the local justices. CIVIL CASES. Cameron v. Evcnnett. —This was a fraud summons ; and after a lengthy examination of the defendant, he was ordered to pay the amount of the judgment, LG Us and costs, by instalments—L2 at the end of the month, and LI a month afterwards, and in default of any instalment, to be imprisoned for one Thomson v. Morris was another fraud summons, to show cause why the defendant had neglected to pay the §jpn ElO and costs on the 7tli January. It appeared on the examination of the defendant by Mr Mausford, who appeared for the plaintiff that he was aware that a distress warrant had been issued, and that though the warrant had been returned by the Police, as “ not sufficient effects,’' yet that he had five cows and other effects, besides a house and land. Mr Fulton directed the Sergeant of Police to enquire into the conduct of the constable and the reason why such a return was made when there were ample effects to satisfy the judgment. After further examination, an order was made for payment of debt and costs in fourteen days, or three weeks’ impiisenment. Spiitji y. Cain.—Fraud summons; the defendant wag ordered to pay 21)8 a-month, or one week s imprisonment in default of any payment. Temporary Thanskeu oj- Ljl'f.id?e.— Mr Mausford applied for a temporary transfer of the license of the Port Chalmers hotel from Henry G. Cole to Edward Reuben Bolton, till the next quarterly licensing meeting in march which was granted.
