The amount of revenue received at the Cus-tom-house on goods cleared for consumption this day, was L 339 3s 9d. In grain but little business has been done this week. Wheat may be said to be out of the market. Excepting a few lots grown in the Southern districts, there is none to be had : 5s 9d is the value of prime samples. Of second class there is a good deal offering. _ Food wheat is wanted, and for good samples ds 9d can be got. Oats continue dull. Middling have a very limited demand at 2s 2d, and feeding are only in trade enquiry at 2s. Malting barley is on sale at 6s 6d ; no transactions on account of scarcity. Inferior kinds are placed from 4s 6d to 5s 3d. Potatoes,—Good Provincial, exceedingly dull, L2; new crop, Lls. Flour has a first-rate trade sale at Ll4 to Ll4 10s. Stocks in town and country are light. Second-class flour, Lll. Bran is scarce, L 4. Pollard, L 5 10s. Oatmeal, Lll 10s. Pearl barley. Hay, L 3 10s. Chaff, L 3 15s. Straw, L2 10s. A. Mercer reports, for the week ending December 31 : Retail prices only— Frest butter, in 41b and 11b prints, best quality, 8d to 9d; second quality, 7d per lb; fresh butter in lumps, 6d to 7d ; powdered and salt butter, Bd. The market still continues overstocked with fresh butter, although many of the dairy farmers are salting it down with the expectation of getting better prices at the fall of the season. There is no demand for salt butter, in kegs, and there is a great quantity in the market; for good samples 7,fd is asked. Cheese is getting more plentiful, but really good samples are scarce ; best quality, 9d ; second quality, 7d to 8d ; English hams, la 4d to la 6d per lb ; Colonial hams, Is per lb; side and rolled bacon, 8d to 9d per lb. The market is overstocked with eggs, and a fall in price expected—selling at Is to Is 2d per dozen.
