The Peninsula, which has been on the slip in Carey’s Bay getting painted, will come off early on Monday. The Wallabi came down from Dunedin last evening, and called alongside the Helen Burns to take in her transhipment of cargo for Bluff. She sails this evening. The lighter Faithful will sail for Moeraki on the first slant. She has on board 48 girders ex Bulwark, for the Waitaki bridge. The s.s. Pretty Jane came out of the floating dock this morning at 3 o’clock, and the Wanganui immediately went in for painting and cleaning. The barque Woodville was brought up this morning by the tug Geelong, and moored alongside the hulk Cincinnati. Captain Hodge reports leaving Newcastle on the 7th inst., with a fine N.E. breeze, and experienced fine weather with light variable winds across. Sighted the Solander last Monday morning; saw a small barque running through, but was unable to make her out. We have to thanE her captain for Newcastle tiles to the 6th inst. The master of the Eliza MThee reports that about 7 p.m. on Wednesday last the 7th inst., while lying alongside the wreck of the Caledonia in Catliu’s River, the latter was struck by lightning about ten feet below the hounds of the mast, which it shattered in pieces within eight feet of the deck. The lightning glanced off into the sea without doing any apparent damage to the hull. Captain Hayward, the river harbor master, also saw the vessel struck. The Wanganui came in Port last evening at 7.300. She reports leaving the Manakau at 8 p.m. on the 13th, and arrived at Wanganui at 5 a.m. on the 15th; sailed 1 p.m. on the 17th and arrived at Wellington at midnight; sailed for Lyttelton at 5 p.m. on the 18th, and arrived at 3 p.m. on the 20th, and experienced fine weather throughout the whole passage. The Wanganui goes into dock as soon as the Pretty Jane comes out. IV e have to thank purser Keeble for our northern files.
