CORPORATION IMPROVEMENTS!

To the Editor. Sir, The thanks of the householders in Canougate street, west of Rattray street, are due to the Corporation for causing a drayroad to be made up the hill, up which no loaded cart can travel. They are still further indebted to these guardians of public comfort for the very effectual way in which the drain on the north side of the street has been blocked up. The water is stagnant about half-way down the hill, and residents in its immediate neighborhood have their olfactory nerves tickled by odours more pungent than those proceeding from the factory of Jean Maria Farina at Cologne. Medical men must look upon this with a chuckle, anticipating the “grist” it will bring to their mills ; and uude. takers regard it as a prospect of increase in trade. Verily, in these times of Boards of Health, quarantine and small-pox hospitals, this is a credit to the great “ commercial capital of New Zealand.” —I am, &c., Wahrheit.
