The complaint of Messrs Wilson, Hunter, and Lamb, in regard to the closing of the road through the pre-emptive right on run 175b was read ; and it was resolved to request the Government to mark off the road, and forward the survey per record. The application of John Spence to purchase the site of his quarters at Queenstown, was referred to the Government

The applications of James Lawlor to purchase section 10, Glenorchy district, held under agricultural lease ; and Th«s. Darton for section 11 block 1, Tuapeka East, were approved. The Tpw.n Clerk of Queenstown’s telegram objecting to the application of J. W. The Town Clerk, Clyde, made application for a return of the original purchasers of Clyde. The Board recommended the Town Council to employ an agent. J, R, Kemp’s application for permission to take up half an acre of limestone deposits, discovered by him between the ’leviot and Alexandra, was referred to .the Warden for report. Mr James Logan’s application to take up 10,000 acres of run 175 A, Grceuvalc, Ta'panui, under clause S3 of the Waste Land Act, I860,) was received ; survey to be paid in land per clause 41, the 2000 acres of agricultural land, alluded to in Mr M'Kerrow’s letter of July 24, being exmemorandum referred to was as follows';—‘.‘The' land applied for by Mr Logan consists principally ‘Of a massive mountain, whose js ?70Q feep above sea level. From tips elevation steep spurs and gullies run down on the qof,th ? east, and west sides of the gorges of the Leitheuburn and the Pomahaka River, and to the head waters of the last branch of the Waikaka. Towards the south, the spurs emerge into easy slopes, and flat country near the district boundary line, at an elevation of 600 to 1000 feet. To the north of the district boundary line, there will be about 10 000 acres, which may be classed as consisting of 3050 acres inferior pastoral country, 5000 lycra/w do, and about 2000 acres of semipastoral" dad agricultural. Between the district boundary line and boundary of application, there will be over itOOO seres of Hat undulating ridges, of a mean elevatioh of 700 feet. This area may be classed as agricultural laud.” Mr J. A. Connell the District Surveyor reported on the same date as Mr M Kcrrow, as follows “ About half q£ the land marked pff as agricultural

is really good, the remainder being secondclass. I may state that this portion of agricultural laud lies at the outside boundary of an enormous area of first-class land fitted for agricultural settlement, extending southwards to the present hundreds, westward to the Mataura River, and eastward to the Pomahaka. Under these circumstances Ido not think that the alienator© of the land included in the application would in any way interfere with the wants of a bona fide settlement.” Mr Adams, for Mr John M'Kellar, applied to have the boundary between runs 1(53 and 178 adjusted. The Board declined to interfere. Mr M ‘Kellar’s application for compensation for house erected by him on section i 4, block 15, Glenkcnich, sold to one Robert Elliott, was referred to the Government.
