It is expected that a regiment of the Ceylon rifles will be ordered to Zanzibar, to assist in the suppression of the East African slavery. The Viceroy is on a tour through Northern India and the Punjaub. Great preparations are beiim made for a grand durbar, to be held at Bombay on Nov. 20. A large number of native princes and chiefs, with their followers, are to attend on the Viceroy, and inspect afterwards 8000 troops at Poonah, A large force, consisting of nine regiments of cavalry, twenty-ono of infantry, and ten batteries of artillery, is assembling at earn]) for exercise in the Punjaub, in live divisions. An embassy from Khiva, asking advice from the Viceroy as to dealings with Russians, was received by Lord Northbrook and duly advised. Cholera prevails in Central Asia, and has appeared in several parts of India, carrying off some distinguished victims. It prevails in Peshawur, Meerut, and among the Calcutta shipping. It is proposed to establish a sanitary department for all India.
Cooling apparatus is to be attached to all first and second class railway carriages iu India before the next hot season.
Dengue fever still prevails in Southern India, but has not yet crossed to. Ceylon, China, and Japan. .Precautions against the introduction into Japan of the rinderpest, which prevails in Shanghai, are being taken. The River Gods in China were imperially thanked and propitiated lately. Great preparations Were being made for the Emperors marriage.
