The following congratulatory telegrams were exchanged on the occasion of the telegraph banquets in Adelaide and London : Telegram for the Hon. the Chief Secretary, Adelaide. Deferring to your telegram of 6th inst., I will thank you to transmit the following to the Chairman of the Banquet Committee, London : “ Colony of Victoria joins heartily in congratulations on this fresh triumph of science, and hopes it will prove an additional bond of permanent union between the mother country and these distant parts of the British empire. “J. Francis. “Melbourne, Nov. 14,1872.” Chairman of Adelaide Banquet Committee to his Excellency the Governor, Melbourne. loth .November, 1872.—The company drank the toast of the commercial interest of the Australian Colonies. His Excellency Viscount Canterbury to bis Excellency Sir James Fcrgussou, Chairman of Adelaide banquet. 15th November, 1872.—Wc concur with South Australia in hearty good wishes for the prosperity of the commercial interests of all the Australian Colonies, aud we renew our congratulations to South Australia on the success of her gallant exertions to identify those interests with the commerce of the world. The Earl of Kimberley to his Excellency the Governor of Victoria (received in Melbourne at 10.40 a m. 16th .November, 1872, Australian telegraph dinner join in drinking prosperity to the Colonies, and in rejoicing at the fresh bond of unity between the different members of the empire. His Excellency Viscount Canterbury to the Karl of Kimberley, London. We warmly appreciate good wishes for our prosperity with that of other Colonics, and heartily concur iu rejoicing at fresh bond of union with the mother country established by successful completion of direct telegraphic communication. 16th November, 1872,
