December 3. By new Departmental order, all telegrams, press or ordinary, must be paid on delivery. Bluff, December 2 Arrived—Oreti, from Dunedin. Auckland, December 3. Diddams, the city rate collector, was found dead in the Mechanics’ Hall, with his throat cut, having committed suicide. It is believed his accounts are wrong. Mr Creighton addressed his constituents, and made a splendid defence of his conduct. He charged Messrs Stafford and Gillies with the abandonment of every principle they professed in 1871. Mr Gillies was present, and questioned Mr Creighton Avhether he was promised the Emigration Agency for Ireland. Mr Creighton denied any such promise having been made. A warm discussion between Messrs Creighton and Gillies followed, the former charging Mr Gillies with angling pertinaciously for office. A vote of confidence was passed. Napier, December 3. The Luna arrived this morning from the East Coast, with the Hon. Mr M*Leau and suite. The dispute amongst the Natives of Waipau has been satisfactorily settled.
