Thomas Hill, was a chaigxi of assault and battery, on the 2bth nit. Mr Stout for the defendant, who pleaded not guilty. The case arose out of a mere schoolboy’s ijuarreh i hoiuas Sontag, brother to the complainant, had. lent his knife to another of the schoolboys, who gave it away to Hill, who having shown it to young Sontag, he claimed it, and was about to put it in his pocket when defendant knocked it out of his hand, but he again secured it. Hill then jumped on Sontag and boat him with a whip, but he shortly afterwards managed to get away. The elder Sontag (the complainant) then came up, and Hill threatened to hit young Sontag again, whereupon the complainant tapped him on the face. The assault complained of then took place, The Bench said the assault was a most unjustifiable one, aud lined the defendant TI) and costs, half to bo awarded to the complainant, or throe da\ s’ imprisonment; and medical costs, 1.2 2s. or in default a further Uuu of threp dayC jmprhomncut.
