Acclimatisation. —At a special meeting of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society, this afternoon, it was resolved to despatch a hundred trout ova to Major Richardson at Pucrua, and a similar number to Mr Humphreys at Strath T'aieri, Princess Theatre. — “.She Stoops to Conquer” and ‘‘O’Callaghan on his Last Legs” were repeat d last evening. This evening Mrs Walter Hill will make her first appearance in Dunedin as Helen iu “The Hunchback.”
Martin’s Bay. —We understand that the arrangements at Queenstown have been altered, and Mr Warden Bectham, accompanied by Messrs Hallcnstcin, M • H. L., and J. W. Robertson, start to-morrow for Martin’s Bay.
Masonic Hall.—We would remind ouv readers that Mr and Miss Rickards' farewell benefit takes place this evening, for which occasion a highly attractive programme has been put forward. The h> u<Jtdares appear in over twenty songs, comprising their beat pieces ; while Mr Clallam will sing some popular ballads.
The Governor, — The Superintendent has received the following telegram from his Excellency : *’ The Governor and Lady Bowen shall have great pleasure in attending the Caledonian games on Ist January ; also the xMasonie hall, to which they have been invited on the 2Gth J'ecember. His Excellency has just had a very successful meeting [at Foxtuii with all the leading chiefs and [ tribes. He congratulates Otago that his suc- | cessor is a Scotchman.”
Telegrams.— The arrangements of the Press Association ;re anything hut satisfactory. We have to wait too long for our messages when a steamer arrives at the Bluff; and do not receive in the messages sent ns news which interests, and often have to jiay fiir items that are stale or have been published here earlier. This is not as it should bo ; and we refer to the subject in the .hope that ,a better state of things will prevail iff the .future.
Ivin Tolmie’.s appointment to the Waste l and Board is only Commissioner, and not Chief Commissioner, as stated by us yesterday, A meeting of the Juvenile Sports Committee will lie held in tho Caledonian Hotel, Great King street, this (Thursday) evening, at halt-past eight. The Pbith monthly meeting of the Permanent Building Society will he held offices of the .Society, Temple ChamDers, tomorrow (Friday) '.veiling at 7 o’clock. A meeting of the Dunedin shareholders in the Scandinavian Water Race Company will be held in the New Zealand Insurance Company’s office at 8 o’clock on Saturday evening. We would difegt attention to the announcement, which appears elsewhere, that Captain Baldwin will lecture in the Masonic Hall on Wednesday next on the Government Idfe Assurance scheme. As indicative of the growing popularity of the scheme, wc may mention that one day last week Captam Baldwin obtained LBOOU in premiums, being the largest day's work done since the department was inaugurated.
