DEPUTATION.

Tin’s morning, Ins Worship the. Mayor, accompanied by Messrs Barnes. Ramsay, and Neale, City Councillors, waited upon bis Honor the Supe'intendent in reference to a variety of matters. First, His Wonsmr brought under notice the application made a few weeks hack to have the street abutting on the railway reserve formed. Mis lioisou said that orders had been given to form it. Second. —With regard to the extension of the Kattray street sewer, it appeared that the pruuosed extension would cost LISOU; that the Covernmcnt proposed to contribute 1.1000, and that the Corporation bad applied to the Daily Tina’s and Kb'Oiwa Company, through whose laud the sewer passes, to subscribe the LdOO, so as to render their land available for building. The company declined, on the gnnuvi that the work was a public one, but subsequently there seemed a prospect of their coming to Some arrangement ; and the wish of the Corporation w as to know if the Covernmcnt still adhered to their original proposition. They would prefer the money being handed over, and making tjbto aewer, as it was possible they might find

it better to change the direction. The Corporation did not know in what relationship the Daily Times stood to the Government in the matter. His Honor said he believed the Government still adhered to the offer made for constructing the sewer ; but as to handing over the money, he could give no answer The laud bought by the Daily Times originally bedonged to Mr Birch, who discovered the sewer, and in consequence redinquished the purchase and received compensation. He should think the Daily Times Company knew of its being there. Tuinl.—The Mayor said as the public urinals would have to be removed, the Corporation wished to know if the ITovincial Government would grant that piece of ground between the Custom House and University, where handsome buildings could be put up. His Honor did not know wheiher tho laud belonged to the General or Provincial Government, or the University, but would us. evtam, and give a definite answer. Fourth. -His Worship asked that the Executive would consider the propriety of removing the toil-bars to a distance of three miies from the city, as they were a vexatious and annoying tax His Honor would bring the question under the notice of the Executive for he considered toll-bars a remnant of barbarism. Fifth.—Begarding the Princes street Deserve, two years ago it was agreed to reserve 33 feet frontage to Princes street, with a view to that street being widened to that extent. Since that time the church people had let their property on long leases, which would render impossible the widening of the street for years to come, nor would it be so much needed when railways were in operation. Although tlio arrangement with tho Government was only honorary, the Corporation did not feel at liberty to lot their lands, including the 33 feet without the Government’s consent, and as they could not let them without that frontage, the Corporation asked to be released from their engagements. His Honor would give a formal answer after consultation with the Executive. Sixth. — His Worship brought up the subject of cutting down Howling street. The Corporation had promised the earth and rock to the Government for reclamation purposes ; bub if the Government would not assist in doing the work, it would be necessary for the Corporation to take the stuff for that purpose. Mis Honor said the matter was under consideration of the Government, which he believed 'A'as likely to meet their views. Tho deputation thanked ids Honor and withdrew.
