MAYOR'S COURT.

Tim Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor and the Hon, Dr Buchan an, J. P.) vagrancy. William M‘Taggart, alias William Homs, and Edward Robinson wore charged with conducting themselves in Rattray tercet in a manner calculated to cause a breach of the peace. The former was lined lo<, or twentyfour hours’ imprisonment, and the latter 20s, or forty-eight hours. auusfve language. John Thomas was charged by John Barnes with using abusive and insulting language whilt he (the complainant) was coming from the Theatre on the night of the 11th inst. The facts are these: —Defendant stopped complainant whilst coming out of the Theatre, spoke to him over a Corporation work, and in doing so used the words complained of. The Bench said the case was clearly proved, and it was a disgraceful thing that a man could not come from a place of amusement without being insulted. What made the case worse was that complainant was a public man and could not retaliate. He was, as it were, a bound man. There were a number of people present, and defendant had not called any to prove he had not niad'e use of the language complained of. Fined 40a and costs, or three days’ imprisonment.
