THE VOLUNTEERS.
A rifle match was tired this morning, at 5 a.m., at Anderson's Bay range, between the Dunedin Naval Brigade and the North Dunedin Bides, arising out of a challenge from the former Company. The weather was very unfavorable for rifle shooting, a strong breeze blowing from the left rear during the match, notwithstanding which some good scores were made, Volunteer Brown, of the Brigade, being the highest, with 45 points, and Volunteer Douglas, of the Rifles, being next with 41. The conditions were live shots, at ranges 300, 500, and 600 yards; Hythe position, at 300 yards, and any position at the other ranges ; Wimbledon targets. The following were the scores made:—
Average, 80 3-10. The North Dunedin Rifles, by the above scores, won the match by 19 points, thus adding another to their victories this season.
