Mr Vogel asked whether the Government was prepared to sanction a reduction in the price of Press telegrams ; and suggested that papers should be allowed to receive telegrams after office hours at greatly reduced rates. Mr Curtis replied that the Government was considering the question of a reduction. In reply to Mr Vogol, Mr Gillies said the Government recognised the value of subsidising a niail service not only to Fiji, but elsewhere; but means must be considered. Mr Vogel said he would introduce the subject at a later stage, and take the sense of the House on it. The Estimates passed without amendment from Class 2to the vote of Resident Magistrates’ Courts.
