(FROM greville’s telegram company.) Wanganui, Sept. 23. Mr Ballance retires from the Egmont election in favor of Major Atkinson, the Government candidate. The reason of his retirement is, that the Patea electors were thrown off the roll by the revising officer. Wellington, Sept. 23. Messrs Gillies, Fitzherbert, and Curtis have not yet resigned their Superintendencies. Great dissatisfaction is expressed thereat. The Wellington Independent this morning announces that Mr Macandrew will dispense with Mr Reid’s services. The proposed step is much approved here, Mr Barraud’s art union contains water color drawings of the Lake scenery of Otago. The Otago Land Bill will meet with strong opposition in the Upper House. Mr Moorhouse’s election is considered certain.
