The B.s. Maori, from Lyttelton via intermediate ports, arrived this forenoon a\ ith passengers and cargo, and was placed alongside the ship Niehol Morning to tranship cargo. The barqnc Eleanor, from Newcastle, coal-laden was signalled at the Hoads at 0.40 to day. The Geelong proceeds to the Beads to tow the harqne in this evening. The s.s Storm Bird sails this evening for Invercargill. The barque Eleanor sailed in this afternoon. . „ , , . The ketch Eliza MThec sailed last evening for Gatlin’s Liver. The schooner Jane Hannah took her doparture for Wellington this morning The Harbour Company’s p.s. Peninsula was last evening laid up for periodical overhaul. , t, V The ketches Huon Belle, and Lloyds Herald, from Gatlin’s River with cargoes of timber, arrived this afternoon. The former anchored at tho Port, and the latter proceeded to Dunedin.

ARRIVAL OF THE SHIP HYDASPES.

The ship Hydaspes, the largest vessel that has been in our Port for years, was towed up to a discharging berth last evening. She is commanded by Captain E. S. Babot, who waa captain of the Water Nymph when she was wrecked at Oamaru in 1868. The Hydaspes left Gravesend on June 23rd, and at noon of the 24th parted with the pilot of the Owcrs ; worked doAvn chanpel with hwh westerly wind, and on June 27th took her departure from Uslant. The north-east trades were met with in 21) deg. north, very light, and were lost 14 deg : north ; the south-east trades were met in 5 deg. north, fresh breeze ; the equator was crossed on the 29th July in 29 deg. west; on the 21st August passed the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope in 30 deg. 30 rain, south; the easting was run down between the parallels of 42 deg. and 45 deg. south, with fresh winds ; no ice was seen ; the Snares were not sighted, hut passed at 2 p. in. on the 17th September, with thick weather ; at 6 a.m. on the 18th sighted Brother’s Point, from there calms and light winds ; at noon, on the 19th, off Cook’s Head; 20th, pilot came on board at 7 a.m. On the 31st August, Mrs M. Ramsay was confined of a female child; at 7 30 a.m., Bessey Coffey died of rapid consumption.
