AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT.

To the. Editor. Sin,—l beg to take this opportunity of thanking you for your mention some few weeks back of the two memorials then in the course of signature, recommending me as a fitting person to asdst as an agent in procuring female emigrants from Great Britain ; and I should feel further grateful to you if you will permit me through this medium to thank those la lies and gentlemen throughout Otago for the compiment paid me by them in this matter. It is with feelings of grateful pride that I inform you, Mr Editor, that over five hundred of the most respectable and influential iuhabitauts of the various districts to which the memorial has been sent—namely, Uuncdiu, Wakatip. Mount Ida, Waikouaiti, and Lawrence —have attached their names to it most willingly. The larger portion of the memorial was forwarded to Mr Yogel by the Albion on her last trip, but since then another sheet of signatures from the Warden, professional men, citizens, and miners of the f irapeka district, advocating the same subject, has been forwarded to me, and I am therefore sending it by the steamer Wellington to-day to the Government; and whether I am approved or not, I shall ever retain a grateful remembrance of those persons who have so kindly given me this expression of their good opinion.—l am, &c., Caroline C. Howard. Princes street, Dunedin, August 17.
