RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Tins Day. (Before A. C. Strode, Esq., E.AI.) Civil Cases. ADLisky v. Meldrum.—This was a summons requiring the defendant to show why he did not pay the amount of a judgment of the Court. After the ease had been called, the plaintiff agreed to accept LI immediately and 10s a-wcek until tbe amount was paid. Wilson v. Hislop (adjourned case). —Air Sanders for the plaintiff; Air Cook for the defendant. The defendant was called, and the account rendered to the plaintiff was gone over. The only difference was as to the rate of wages payable. The witness stated that 10s a-day was set down for the plaintiff in his presence, and no objection was made. Workmen in the country never, until a fortnight ago, received more than the town rate of wages. Robert Stevens, a youth, stated he agreed with Hislop to work for 6s a day. He was told his wages were charged f)a a-day to the contractors, and 12s for > Hislop. Judgment for the defendant. Barton v. Hutchison. —LI Is. for law charges. Judgment for the plaintiff, for the amount with costs. Same v. Gilmore Bros —LS7 6s. Judgment by default for tho plaintiff for the amount with costs, [This case has since been settled.]
Plexraan v. Connor.—Ll9 10s 4d. Judgment by default for the plaintiff for tlie amount with costs. Johnston v. Heir. —TO ISs, for a waterproof coat. Defendant bought the coat, promising to pay on the following Saturday. He returned it the next day spoiled by the action of fhc lirn, and refused to pay for it. Judgment for the plaintiff for the amount with costs.
