Sir. —To say that the amusing writer, “Nemo me impune lacessit,” in quoting a scurrilous paragraph from the mendacious and hireling paper, the London Telegraph, has descended into the gutter, the serious and reflecting portion of your numerous readers knows to be true. It is hardly possible that the enemies of Ireland could show more acrimony, malignity—nay, diabolism —than the Telegraph has done; and if your well-known correspondent imagines that

such methods as that adopted by the Telegraph will prove successful, I apprehend that he will Be greatly mistaken. The only effect such vile abuse is calculated to have upon Ireland will be to confirm them in (heir faith in the present Government, and operate as an incentive to more energetic and vigorous action to secure for them the power of carrying out the noble task they have set themselves to accomplish. Irishmen always have had great difficulties to encounter. Stupidity, prejudice, bigotry, and foul-mouthed vilification, have ever reared their brazen and impudent heads in futile opposition to the onward advance of right and justice; but large-hearted humanism will despite the vain at - tempts of the scornful bigot or the stupid viliHer.—l am, &c, Veritas.
