LIFE ASSURANCE.
The Masonic Hall was crowded last evening, to listen to Captain Baldwin’s lecture on “Government Life Assurance.” The
Mayor occupied the chair. The lecturer, on coming forward, was greeted with rounds of applause. He entered fully into the history and advantages of life assurance, contrasting the Government scheme, which he said was copied from Mr Gladstone’s Act, with the advantages offered hy other companies. He illustrated his subject with numerous anecdotes, which from time to time illicited roars of laughter, and gave several instances which had come under his notice of the advantages of insuranc and the dangers of delay. He spoke for two hours. A vote of thanks to the lecturer for his able lecture and explicit statement was proposed by the Kev. Mr Johnstone, and seconded by the Rev. Mr Maxwell, both gentlemen stating that they believed fully in the scheme, and could not too strongly recommend it to those present. '
