The Independent has been furnished with a return of the result of the competition for the cadet prices. The bulk of the prizes goes to the North Island. Auckland fakes L 2 4; Bangitikei, L 29 ; Canterbury and Napier, L 8 10s each; Hutt, Ll4; Thames, LI I 15s ; Nelson, Ll9 10s; Wellington, L 27 ss; Otago, L 9 10s ; Marlborough, L 3 ; and Greytown and Taranaki, the insignificant sums of 15a each. The North Island gets LlO9 10s ; she South, L4O 10s. Otago does not appear in the first or third sets. We give the names of the principal prize takers : Fibst Set Phizes.
