The schooner Alice, bound hence, left the Bluff on Thursday morning. The s.s. Rangitira and Phoebe aruved today from Northern Ports. . The s s. Tararua, for Melbourne, via the Bluff, sailed last evening. On passage down the harbour one of the ship Hud Deer’s boats, Jiltf-- 1 with Mr Douglass patent lowering apparatus, was lowered whdsc the Tararua was going full speed. The Captain of the Alma was in the boat at the time of the experiment and speaks in the highest terms of praise of the practical working of this useful invention.
