MAYOR’S COURT.

This Dav. (Before his Worship the Mayor.) DRUNKENNESS. Thomas Thompson was fined 20s or 48 hours. GAMBLING. George Dodson, of the Empire Hotel, was charged with unlawfully suffering gambling with dice on his premises on May Ist. Sergeant Keligher proved that he entered the hotel at half-past one on the morning mentioned, and found a number of people in a room gambling with dice. The table, was also covered with money. Constable M‘Mahon substantiated Sergt. Keligher’s evidence in all particulars. Lewis Lyons, in evidence, admitted they were playing with dic«, but only for drinks ; and Alexander Muir gave similar evidence to Lyons. Henry Walter Murray was subpoened to appear, but when the case was over entered the Court and apologised for his absence. His Worship said the case was fully proved, and fined defendant LlO and costs. MINOR OFFENCES. E. Holmes was fined 5s and costs for neglecting to clean his premises in George street. C. Eccles was fined 5s for driving a cart through Princes street after certain hours without a proper light being attached thereto. Joseph Holliday was fined 4(Js for furiously driving two horses Thomas Craft was fined 40s for plying for hire off the proper cabstand. D, Muirhead was fined 40s for plying for hire off the proper cabstand. John James was fined 40s for plying for hire off the stand.
