DUNEDIN RIFLE CLUB.

At the adjourned meeting of the committee held at the British Hotel last evening. Sergt. Morris in the chair, The Secretary brought up the report of the committee, which congratu ated the club on the satisfactory result of their labors, and on the support received having far exceeded their most sanguine expectations. The system of handicapping passed by the club had been attended with the best results ; many of the members who would otherwise have had no chance against the crack shots, being able to hold their own, and oftertiraes to carry off a prize. On the whole, the committee had reason to believe that in a great degree the excellence of the shooting this season depended on the efforts of the club. The number

of competitors in the past six matches was as follows :—First match, 83 ; second, 87 ; third, 97 ; fourth, 43 ; fifth, 69 ; sixth, 57 ; showing an average of a little over 72 in each match. The number for the first four matches was—first match, 52 ; second, 59 ; third, 61 ; and fourth 52, or an average of 56 in each match. This result spoke for itself, and showed the interest felt in the club by Volunteers generally. The highest scorer in any match was Yol. Key, with 54 points, five of which were allowed. The highest aggregate scorer in five matches was Vol. M'Laren, S.D.R., whose scores, made without points, are unexceptionally good—viz., for the first match, 44 ; second, 44 ; third, 50 ; fourth, 46 ; fifth, 43 ; making a total of 227 points or two above centres. This was to be regarded as splendid shooting and deserving of praise. Although the committee had exercised the strictest economy in the expenditure of the club funds, they regretted to state that they w, re not in a position to award any prizes to the highest aggregate scorers, as was their intention. Something, however, might be. done to raise funds for that purpose. A great measure of the success of the club had been the impartial conduct of the handicappers (Captains M'Farland and Copeland), whose efforts in that direction had given universal satisfaction, and to whom the hearty thanks of the members were due. In conclusion the committee urged members to continue their efforts to carry on the club, and hoped at the next meeting to be able to present a report of an improved condition of affairs. The treasurer’s balance sheet showed that the subscriptions had amounted to L 56 17s 6d; while payments for sighting shots brought up the total revenue to L6l 11s. The expenses to date were L 53 2s 6d. Both reports were adopted.
