RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Tins Dav. (Before A, C. Strode, Esq., R.M.) Civil Cases. Beadle v. Freeman.—Adjourned for a fortnight. A. and T. M'Farland v. Simons —L.3 2s 9d, for goods sold and delivered. Judgment by default for plaintiff for amount claimed,together with costs. Harrison v. Eyre.—Ll 10s, for assessment on land in the Blueskin district. The defence was that the Road Board had neglected to appoint commissioners to hear objection* to the rate. The evidence of the plaintiff showed that commissioners were duly appointed, and that the report was signed duly by him who attended. Judgment for the plaintiff for the amount, with costs. Williams v. Wilson.—7s Gd, for an oil lamp. The plaintiff said defendant acknowledged the debt, and asked what more plaintiff wanted? The defendant said plaintiff and he were working at the same job, and the lamp was obtained to put on a hoarding. The case was adjourned to Friday, Logan v. Jeffs.—This was an application for an order to compel defendant to deliver up certain premises occupied by him. The defendant said he did not object to give up the premises, but he required until Saturday or Monday. An order was made to deliver up the premises on or before Saturday next, 15s rent and costs to be paid by the defendant. M'Connell v. Campbell.—Mr Harris for the plaintiff; Mr Stout for the defendant. This was a claim for LlO for destruction of the plaintiff's fences, hedges, trees, and growing crops by fire, caused by defendant’s negligence.
