THE SNOWED-UP MAILS.
On the day of the departure of the Moses Taylor from San Francisco, Mr Raymond, the local agent of the line, wrote to Messrs Henderson and Macfarlane, as follows:—“ If I were certain of the arrival of the mail, I should still wait but I have been confident
it could not arrive perhaps for a week, aud even then not come ; so f most leave without? it. To confirm my judgment, [ have a telegram at the last moment from Mr Goodman, general agent to the Central Pacific railroad, in which he says, ‘ news from the Union Pacific railroad is not at all favorable Do not think we can arrive at San Francisco before the 10th ; doubtful then. Trains are now snow-bound at Caben and Miscn, 400 miles east of Ogden.’” Mr Raymond stat-s in one part of bis communication that freight was refused at San Francisco to enable the Moses Taylor to make better time, and that the California has been especially chartered to leave that city on February 28, the proper date for Honolulu, so that lost time on previous trips will be made , while every possible arrangement has been made to ensure the arrival of the Nevada at Auckland at her due date. -The following private despatches from Laramie and Omaha are published in the Alfa California of February C, ills day the steamer left “ Loramie : Weather now very fine here ; expect to arrive on Thursday. Inform steamer. Omaha: February 5, New Zealand mads left here on the 28th ; still in snow, but expect to get out by to-morrow.”
