WRECK OF THE ONEHUNGA.
Wo (Oamaru Time*) regret to have to r - port the total lots of the fore-and-aft schooner, Onehuuga, It. Crouch, master, on Saturday afternoon last. This neat and smart vessel was the sole property of Messrs Sumpter and Lemon. She had arrived hero from Junediu with about 30 tons of produce 9 nd general merchandise, and had loaded about Jo tons of flour and grain, shipped by Messrs Anlcrson and Mowaf, Wien she was ordered to sea as tl e w atler had a diity appea .nice, and a nasty sea was rolling in. About a quarter past three this afternoon she got under way on the starboard tack, and when within a short distance of the beach tried to go about. She missed stays, but having just sufficient room to fill on her and try .again, tie Captain made another attempt to stay her. She missed a second time, and the anchor was then let go, and clulhauled, to cant her head to the south east. The port cable was then immediately slipped ; and tl e sails offing, the vessel stood out on thepo;t tack. When near the Cap.;, however, she again missed stays, being under the shelter or the laud, i d the wind having no power upon her-ails. 'I he anchor was then let go, but refused to hold, and the vessel dri t.d helplessly iu, settling fast upon the rocks close to where the Fre mer came ashore. There appeared to he no blame attributable to the captain in the matter. Immediately on the vessel’s striking every exertion wrs made to save the cargo, which was al get out and stowed on the tramway. At 7 p.m. the same day the wreck was sol I, as she lay, to Mr Bauclinet for the sum of LIU 1 .
