THE ROAD ACROSS THE OCTAGON.

To the Editor. Sir, —There is in existence a very old adage, viz., “It’s a hard thing to please everybody,” and I think that will apply very well in this case. There has evidently been something very irregular in the proceedings of the Municipal Council in dealing with a reserve over which apparantly they have no control, and making a road across the same reseve, namely, the Octagon. Our Municipal Council should learn to look before they leap, or the result will be a nice bill of costs one of these days ; but I sincerely hope the blunders which they have committed ,may be remedied without such a result, or without compelling the Corporation to close a road which, to say the least, is a very great improvement to the City, From the remarks of his Honor the Superintendent, it is very evident the Octagon wag reserved for the purpose of forming a public gartfen ; rather ? reserve for such a purpose, you will ho doubt admit The tenor of the grant may still be carried out, by simply forming a garden on both sides of the new road way, and securely fence it in, which would have one very beneficial .effect —at least it wjll prevent itinerant and ’ sacriiigious orators from taking possession of thig rpserye to the annoyance of peacedoving citizens. —I gm, kc. Feb. 10, 1873.
