MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day. (Before His Worship the Mayor.) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Catherine M'Phennon, Charles Abbott, and Francis M ‘Cugg nvro each charged with the above offence, and discharged with a caution. Gerald Murphy was lined 40s. Alexander Mee was remanded for medical examination. OFFENCES AGAINST THE BYE LAWS. Euphemia Muirhead was fined 5s and costs for permitting two cows to wander in Castle and Howe streets. Angus Campbell was charged with displacing land on the Town Belt, Adjourned till Wednesday, in order to afford time to accused to make good the damage done. MAINTENANCE. Anne Dufty was charged with neglecting to maintain Annie Dufty and James Dufty, her children, who were both inmates of the Industrial School at Caversham. Samuel Britton, master of the school at Caversham, said the cost of each child to the Province was 8s 6d per week, and accused had not paid anything towards their support, He believed they were children of different fathers. Inspector Thompson said Dufty could find money for diink, and he thought his Worship was warranted in making her pay something. Defendant: I can get drink when I cannot get money. His Worship said he should make an order for her to pay 2s 6d per week r or each child. She seemed in good bodily health, and apparently found money for drink. Defendant: You may make an order if you like, but I shall not pay it. Elizabeth Mowbray was summoned on a similar charge for neglecting to support James and William Mowbray, who were inmates of the Industrial School, having sufficient means to contribute towards their support. Accused said she would agree to pay LI per month from the Ist of February, and an order was made out in accordance.
