MAYOR’S COURT.
Tins Day. (Before His Worship the Mayor, and James Brown, Fsq., J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. Robert Johnston and James Langs were each fined ss. William Gilfoy was fined 10s and Hugh Johnston, 20s or three day’s imprisonment. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Isabella charged with this offence, was, on the application of the Commissioner of Police, remanded till Saturday. UNLAWFUL POSSESSION. Thomas Riley was charged with having possession of a quantity of linen collars, &c., without being able to account satisfactorily for the same. It appeared from the evidence that the prisoner went to the shop of Mr Solomon, pawnbroker, George-strect, and offered the articles for sale, agreeing to take a shilling for them. Mr Soloiqon not believing that he came honestly by them, asked him if they belonged to himself, aud he replied in the affirmative, but .afterwards said he had bought them from a hawker. They had the appearance of having newly come from the laundress’s and his suspicious being confirmed by the man’s equivocation, Mr Solomon gave him in charge. To the police the prisoner also made confused -tatemeuts. In court he adhered to his story of having bought them, and in order to allow him to prove his innocence, he was remanded for a week. OFFENCE AGAINST THE BYE LAWS. George Christie for driving a ’bus without a license was fined 20s and costs.
