They have announced a monthly service between Sydney, Auckland, Dunedin, and other ports. Adelaide. Mr Dominick Daly, eldest son of the late Governor, died suddenly of apoplexy. The Omeo is advertised to sail for Port Darwin. Queensland. It is expected that telegraphic communication will be opened with the Gulf of Carpenteria in about a fortnight. Auckland, December 18. A fire lias taken place at Onehunga, which destroyed eight buildings, including the Custom House (which contained all the lighthouse material for Manakau Heads) ; the Exchange Hotel, and two stores. Policies of insurance are hsld as follow :—Royal Insurance Company, LCOO ; Liverpool and Loudon, L 50 0; Norwich Union, L 30 0; New Zealand, L3OO. The fire is believed to have be n caused by an incendiary. It originated in an empty house. The Chief Justice has ruled that a final discharge does not release a bankrupt from liability for past debts, but that the creditors may afterwards apply to the Court for an order requiring the bankrupt to set aside a portion of his income to satisfy contracts entered into prior to insolvency. The schooner Midge has been totally wrecked at Kaipara. She was insured in the New Zealand Company for LI4OO, aud the cargo in the Pacific Company for L3OO. The new Education Bill is purely secular. A Chinaman named Ah Took stabbed another named Ah Gee, on the Adelaide road last night. The wound was fatal; and the murderer has been arrested.
