VOLUNTEERS.

Tho members of the Dunedin Rifle Club met again on Saturday, the 16th inst. to compete for prizes in the third match of the second scries, when 97 members out of 120 that the club numbers, competed. The day was in favor of good scores being made, and, as was to he expected, some splendid scores were made by Vols. M'Laren, South District Rifles, with 50 points ; R. 0. G. Wilson, Port Chalmers Naval Brigade, 49 ; Lieut. Marshall and Scrgt. MTvenzie, of the Wakari Rifles, with 48 each. The conditions for this match were different from any previous one in a lowing any position at the 400 yards in the place of kneeling, and there is no doubt that has had the effect of making the scores much larger than previously. The ranges were 400, 500, and 600 yards. 5 shots each; any position throughout. The Andersens Bay range seemed to be the favorite one with the town members, 48 of whom competed there; 22 at the North Dunedin Range ; 12 at the East Taieri ; 9 at Port Chalmers ; and 6 at the Wakari range. We give the ten highest scorers, who are also the prizetakers.

The Artillery fired their second competislon for company representatives in the Colonial Prize Firing this morning, at the Anderson’s Bay Range. '! he weather was excessively hot, and a thick haze with a light variable wind rendered good shooting at the longer ranges imp issible. The following are the scores above 50 points :
