The Claud Hamilton left Hobson’s Bay at 1.30 p.m. on the 9th December, passed through the Heads at 6 p.m. the same day, and arrived at Hokitika at 3.30 p.m. on the 15th. She was expected to beat the (Joraerang, and it is supposed she came with Hews of interest to mining speculators. The captain affords po information. He called in at Port Stephens, the first telegraph station. Wool sales dull; prices unaltered. The Premier stated it was the intention of the Government to communicate with the other Australian Colonies in reference to the establishment pf a final Cqurt of Appoal, Intelligence has been received, ypj Honolulu, that the Arctic whaling fleet was caught in the ice, which came down earlier than usual. Thirty-three ships were crushed, and 1200 seamen took refuge on board seven vessels which escaped. The ships smashed up like chips. Adelaide. Mr Bartels, the first German Mayor, beat Mr Solomons by a large majority. The thermometer has lately reported 108 ® in the shade, and 153 ° in the sun. There have been news of gold discoveries in the North-East Territory. The Marine Board has suspended the captain’s certificate for six months for stranding the Meander. New wheats are coming in.
