THE YACHT CLUB MATCHES.

The Otago Yacht Club held their annual sailing matches yesterday. The strong breeze blowing in the morning prevented the start taking place till after midday. The two races were merged into one. The start, which was a flying one, was as follows : SECOND-CLASS EACE.

Through some misunderstanding the Torment only went once round instead of twice. This was unfortunate, as her position was the best; tire Cygnet being next, and the Annie third. The two last-mentioned boats finished a second round, and took first and second positions respectively. The large yachts made a very close race. The Dauntless lost first position in the first run down, the Anonyma and afterwards the Gypsy passiag her. The Gypsy in the second round took the lead, hut was afterwards passed by both the other yachts. The wind increased to a gale towards the end of the races, and it is a wonder how the small boats, especially the little Annie, managed to get round the course at all. The time of making the race for the first-class yachts was, including time allowance, as follows :

Wo mid rstand that My Hay has pro. tested against the decision in the second* class race, asserting that he was in striicted to go once round only.

H. M. s. Torment ... 1 54 40 Annie ... 1 57 40 Cygnet... ... ... i} FIRST-CLASS RACE, 3 m H. 51. s. Dauntless ... 2 7 3 Anonyma 2 8 33 Gypsy 2 12 55
