PARLIAMENT.
(from ovr own correspondent.)
Wellington, November 7
Mr Creighton's resolution that the House guarantees the expenditure necessary for holding the next session at Dunedin, was carried by 29 to 10. There was a long debate, in the course of which Mr Fox stated he considered it inconvenient for Parliament to meet at Dunedin. Mr Donald M'Lean expressed himself favorable to the change. Mr Haughton’s motion that the Government consider the evidence given before the Committee on Chinese immigration, was carried, as was Mr Webster’s motion for a committee to consider the Government arrangements with the Bank of New Zealand, the Government desiring that the committee should be appointed. An address was adopted requesting the Governor to give effect to the recommendations of the select committee ton Colonial industries. The Forest Trees Planting Encouragement Bill passed the House In the Legislative Council, the Otago Waste Lands Bill was introduced by the Hon Mr Patterson, who moved the second reading for Monday next. This is practically shelving it. The Council insist upon their amendment in the Payment to Provinces Bill, and their action is likely to cause a breach between the two Houses.
