Auckland, November 3. A murder has been commit 1 ed at Kawhia by a chief named Hone llewi, who killed a native of another tribe, who professed to be a great wizard, and had boasted that he had Caused the death of several natives and the insanity of Tawhaio’s wife. He promised to cure the latter, if placed wholly in his charge; but it being found that he contemplated improper designs, Hone thought it a good thing to be rid of him, so be shot him to the joy of all Kawhia. The Nevada has arrived from Sydney with the Suez mail, and Cagli’s opera company. An enquiry was held at, Sydney into toe collision of the Nevada with the A. H. Badger. Several witnesses from the A. 11. Badger were examined, but no decision has been given. The captain of the Nevada reserved his defence f"i' ai y judicial investigation which miuht bo instituted, and gave a bond for L3OOO to return. The Nevada sailed for Can Francisco with 39 passengers and 110 tons cargo. Mr Lennox reports Caledonians, Ll2O ; Thames, L 23 ; Tookey’s. L2B; Alburnia, L 7 7s. Flour, wheat, and oats, are dull. Canterbury Hour is quoted at Ll2 Ids ; wheat, os 3d, Three vessels with breadstuffs are expected from Adelaide.
