PARLIAMENT.

(from our own correspondent.) Wellington, Oct. 14. When the’ debate on the Government of Provinces Bill came on last night, Mr Vogel consented to an adjournmen , with a view to its withdrawal, in deference to the views of many of the Government supporters. He said the sweeping away of Provincial institutions formed no part of the policy of Ministers, who had only in view economy and reform, and not abolition. Tbe former was the only effect of tbe Bill. The adjournment was carried on the voices. A strong feeling existed against the Bill. The Opposition .are coalescing with the other Proviucialists, and were aided by tbe ultra-Cen-tralist party in thinking that the Bill did not go far enough. The Payment to Provinces Bill, the Gold Mining Districts Bill, and the Gold Mines Drainage Bill were read a second time. The two last refer specially to Auckland. The Attorney-General’s Act Repeal Bill was withdrawn. All the Treasury Bills have passed. The Qualification of Electors Bill was withdrawn.

An interesting debate took place upon the Licensing Acts Amendment Bill. Messrs Macandrew and Haughton opposed the measure, while. Messrs M‘Gillivray, • Bathgate, Calder, and Steward supported it. The debate was adjourned. The Abolition of Imprisonment for Debt Bill, the Otago Supreme Court Offices Bill, the Building and Land Societies Act Amendment Bill were read a second time.

The City of Dunedin Borrowing Bill passed.
