MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor.) DRUNKENNESS. The notorious William Lloyd was charged with this offence. The charge was proved by three constables ; but Lloyd insisted that the charge arose out of the animus shown by the police towards himself. Ho went into a long defence, which appeared to afford immense amusement to a large, audience. He was fined 10s, or twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, whereupon he observed, “I hope it will be hard labor.” His wish was gratified. David Christie was fined ss. ABUSIVE LANGUAGE. William Lloyd was further fined 20s, or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. ALLEGED THEFT. John Quinn was charged with stealing a purse. It appeared from tire eviderree that the accused had fallen in with some women, and his’dcbauch ended ,iu this charge being preferred against him by one of the number. After hearing the evidence, his Worship dismissed the case. A charge of as.-anlt against Quia by another of the women was dismissed. Mr Harris defended.
