Crowded Out. —In order to make room for the mail news, several items of local intelligence and some correspondence have been held over.
The Mayoralty. Mr Fish addressed a large meeting at the Water of i.eith drill shed, where he received a vote of confidence. His meeting at the Queens Arms Hotel was equally successful. Mr Thoncman addressed the ratepayers in High Ward, in the Mission-house, Russell street, and received a unanimous vote of confidence.
Princess Theatre, — “ The Scamps of London” and the burlesque of “Endyraion” were repeated last night to a very good house. There will he au entire change of programme this evening, commencing with the “ Carpenter of Rouen,” and concluding with the burlesque of the “ Invisible Prince.”
Port Chalmers Railway. The Port Chalmers Railway tunnel was commenced to-day ; about twenty men having commenced operations on the easterly face of the tunnel, which will open out immediately behind the site of the stables that recently stood between the Port Chalmers Hotel and Mr Clark’s ship chandler-stores. We understand that the soil excavated will be used by the contractors for the reclamation of land in connection with the formation of the new railway jetty.

A lecture under the auspices of the First Church Young Men’s Christian Association, will he delivered by the Rev. Mr Walt to-morrow (Wedn slay) (evening at 7,30. Subject : “ Missionary Enterprise in Polynesia, and speculation on the origin of the race.”
Mr Thoneman will address the electors tins evening at Watson’s Hotel, Walker street, at 8, and at the Peacock Hotel, Princes street, at!). Mr Fish will also address the electors this evening at the Mission House, Russell street, at 8, and at the Alhambra Hotel, Maelaggau street, at, 9 o’clock.
