(FROM GREVXLLK’s TELEGRAM COMPANY, REUTER’S AGENTS.) Wellington, May 18. A magnificent banquet was given to Dr. Featherstone yesterday. Mr. Fitzherbert presided, and over three hundred sat down, including Messrs. Fox, Gisborne, Bell and Sewell. Hundreds accompanied him to the Nevada to bid him farewell, Lawrence, May 10. A dinner to celebrate the return of liberal representatives to the General Assembly and Provincial Council took place last evening at the Athemeum. About 85 persons, including five members of the General Assembly, and eleven . members of the Provincial Council, sat down to dinner, which was a great success, a most enjoyable evening being spent. The usual toasts were given and speeches made, the proceedings being brought to a close at halfpast two o’clock this morning. The weather during the day was very boisterous, which prevented the attendance of a great number of gentlemen from the surrounding districts.

Christchurch, May 18. The Nevada took from, here five saloon passengers—including Mr J. C. Wilson, C.B. —and six steerage passengers, for San Francisco. Young Austin is matched to run Bird, the English pedestrian, for L 25 a-side, Bird giving his opponent one mile in twelve. The match is to be run in six weeks. Bird does not go to Dunedin with Hewitt and Harris, but goes into training for this race.
