Maori, with passengers and cargo from Lyttelton and intermediate ports, arrived this morning. The s s Plum e, with _ passengers and cargo from northern ports, and the English Mads, via San Francisco, arrived this afternoon.’ Mio’tly after arrival the Harbour Co.’s Peninsula steamed alongside, conveying without loss of time the mails ex Phcehe by aoecial trip to Dunedin. The schooner Excels’or, from Waikouaiti, with original cargo, has on account of the bad state of the bar, again returned to Port, but reports that the schooner Alice and the ou l ter Advance from Dunedin, both got safe inside yesterday. The brigantine Emulous having discharged cargo at Kakanui, arrived at the Port this afternoon, Capt. Paterson reports that whilst the vessel was hove to on Tuesday last during a heavy N. W. gale, a tremendous sea broke on board and w. shed a seaman named James Dunbar overboard. It was sometime after the accident before lie was missed.
