Invercargill, March 28,

The stranded vessel is the Norwegian brig Hindoo, from Foo-Chow, She struck on the beach yesterday morning, at four o’clock. The crew got ashore with the assistance of the Maoris. The cargo will be saved, but not the hull. She is waterlogged to her gunwale. A survey was held to-day, but the result is unknown.

Christchurch, March 28. A slight shock of earthquake was experienced here this morning shortly before eight o’clock, Oaharu, March 27. The Governor arrived at Oamaru on Saturday, and was the guest of the Hon. Matthew Holmes at Awamoa House. The Volunteers mounted guard during his stay. The public reception took place to-day, when an address was presented by the Mayor and Corporation, and a levee held at the Court-house, at which members of the Legislature, Volunteers, and civilians wore presented. A commemoration tree was planted in the Esplanade. A luncheon was given at the Masonic Hall; about sixty ladies and gentler men sat down. His Excellency left

for Messrs Buckley and M'Lean’s station, Waitaki; and proceeded thence to Timaru, where he will probably arrive to-morrow. He was escorted to the town boundary by the Mayor and Council, Volunteer officers, and others. The Governor expressed himself greatly pleased with his reception.
