THE FORTHCOMING ELECTION.

To the Editor. Sir— Everybody admits that if you wish to catch flies you must not bit with vinegar, and the candidates for the representation of the City in the Provincial Council to a man are going in for the more likely bait. Many of them strong supporters of Mr Donald Reid’s p licy, and actually members of his committee, are now with unblushing modesty loudly proclaiming their entire belief in and determination to support the policy of Mr Macandrow, in order, as they no doubt believe, to ob L a ; n the support of tho large mijority of the electors, who by their vo'.es for Mr Macan lrew unmistakably told the Reil party that their policy and tactics would not suit. The importance of giving full effect to the late Superiutendental election by returning sucb members as are and have been for some time past known to bo supporters of the progressive views entertained by his Honor, should not be lost sight of, nor the elector hoodwinked by the stump oratory of the opposition party, disappointed men. Let the electors be true to themselves ; seven good men and true are to be fmmd in the list: re'urn them to the Council, an I then there will he no excuse for further procrastination and messing. The winter season will s -on set in, and work must be provided for honest labor. Let that be done, and Otago will yet flouvi«h. I am, &c., Observer.
