THE GENERAL ELECTIONS.
SOUTHERN MAORI DISTRICT. The polling lias terminated in the return of H ori Karei Taiaroa, of Otago, by a majority of 74. The official declaration of the poll was made on the 24th instant, at the Kaiapoi pah, by Mr A. Mackay, Returning Officer. The following is a return of the votes polled at the various polling places, from which it will be seen that the Natives have displayed a much livelier interest in the election than they did in ISOS, only 80 votes having been polled on that occasion :
